Poland syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by agenesis of the pectoralis major muscle. It is usually unilateral and right-sided and can be associated with several thoracic and upper limb defects. Early diagnosis and timely therapeutic approaches play an important role, improving the quality of life of patients and their families. This case report aims to show the benefits of early diagnosis, especially for follow-up management.
La sindrome di Poland è un raro disordine congenito caratterizzato dall’agenesia del muscolo grande pettorale. Generalmente è unilaterale, prevalentemente a destra, ed è associata a molteplici difetti del torace e dell’arto superiore. La diagnosi precoce e gli approcci terapeutici tempestivi svolgono un ruolo importante nel migliorare la qualità di vita dei pazienti e dei familiari. Questo case report ha lo scopo di mostrare la fattibilità della diagnosi precoce e la sua utilità nell’impostazione di un appropriato follow-up.

The paper describes the case of an 8-year-old girl with a one-year history of erythematous lesion and pain in her left foot. At first she was evaluated by an orthopaedic who recommended a throat swab that was positive for beta-haemolytic streptococcus and she underwent antibiotic therapy without benefit. Then, she was evaluated by a dermatologist who diagnosed a granuloma annulare. She presented with high antistreptolysin title and the physical examination showed linear and serpiginous papular lesion of her left foot. So, a cutaneous larva migrans was suspected that was then confirmed by the infectious disease specialist. The lesion disappeared after albendazole therapy.
