The paper presents the case of a newborn with congenital hypothyroidism and iatrogenic hyperthyroidism after replacement treatment at proper dosage was started. Laboratory findings suggested the diagnosis of ectopic thyroid gland that was confirmed by scintigraphy. The case offers the opportunity to discuss the incidence of ectopic thyroid gland, the use of scintigraphy in differential diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism and the importance of follow-up, especially in relation to possible malignant progression.
