Key words: Warts, Intraepidermal lesions, Human papillomavirus infection
Warts are benign intraepidermal lesions caused by human papillomavirus infection that commonly affects children and adolescents. The 4 most frequent types of cutaneous warts are common warts, plantar warts, flat warts, and genital warts. Although they rarely pose a serious health problem, warts can result in physical impairment and psychosocial discomfort, but as cutaneous warts resolve spontaneously and available treatments often fail, family physicians and patients may consider not invasive therapy or a wait-and-see strategy.
