The Guideline on Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) (guidelines number 21) has been drafted by the National Institute of Health (ISS, Istituto Superiore di Sanità) in 2012 with the active involvement of a panel of experts representing the national non-governament al organizations of professionals, persons with ASD and parents. It issues recommendations that are based on a review and evidence evaluation of the existing international guidelines and scientific literature in the field of ASD. Recommendations include the behavioural and cognitive-behavioural approaches, as well as early and parent-mediated intervention.
