We have studied 92 overweight (BMI between 22 and 25) or obese (BMI>25) children and adolescents referring to 13 family paediatricians of Palermo. The aim of the study was to estimate the effectiveness of the interventions in the management of obesity and in the prevention of its risks. In our patients the most frequent health complications of obesity were: hepatic steatosis of medium-serious degree (33%), reduced oral glucose tolerance (17%), hypertension (13%), and metabolic syndrome (10%). Less of 25% of our patients completed the follow-up and all of them return to the initial BMI after 6 months.

We report the case of a 24 years old boy with Prader-Willi syndrome and severe obesity (BMI=66). He suffered from breathing difficulties especially during sleep and snoring. We performed a polysomnography which showed an obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome with severe arterial oxygen desaturation. Continuous positive airway pressure treatment led to a great improvement of oxygen saturation.
