Critically ill and injured children have better outcome when care is provided within the context of an organized paediatric emergency care service. Many techniques are used to resuscitate and stabilize the child. Among these techniques, airway management and venous access are of paramount importance. This article presents the essential approach to the unstable paediatric patient. Basic airway management and emergency procedures such as intraosseous access are discussed.
