Who we are

An Italian paediatric journal

Medico e Bambino, founded in 1982, is a subscription monthly journal (about 7,000 subscribers) and an important reference point for Italian paediatricians’ continuous medical education.
It is largely focused on outpatient paediatrics (but also on the hospital one) and it follows the principles of EBM.
Over the years it has maintained an independent and critical position towards the practices and influences that are not strictly scientific.
The journal is structured in columns that are real examples of diversified and updated education: Editoriali (Editorials) - comments to articles and stances on the general aspects and phenomena of Paediatrics and society; Pagina Gialla (The Yellow Page) - international news of the month; Lettere (Letters) - an interactive column between the Journal and its Readers; Aggiornamento (Up-date); Problemi correnti (Current Problems); Problemi speciali (Special Problems); Articolo speciale (Special Article); Farmacoriflessioni (On Drugs); Percorsi clinici (Clinical Cases); Osservatorio (Observatory) - on scientific images and social-political news of the paediatric world; Rubrica iconografica (Iconographic column); Casi indimenticabili (Unforgettable cases); Domande e risposte (Questions and answers); Dietro le sbarre (Behind Bars) – on legal Medicine; ABC - updated and upgraded column on the most common paediatric problems; Ricerca; Controversie; Digest - critical reading of some aspects of the international literature; Pagina verde (The Green Page) – with the summaries of the articles published in full online; Pagina bianca (The White Page) – with the most curious headings on paediatrics taken from newspapers; Oltre lo Specchio (Behind the Mirror) – focused on the cultural and social aspects of the physicians’ world and on children’s nature.
The web site of Medico e Bambino (www.medicoebambino.com) is continually updated and its subscribers can consult the complete archives of the Journal from 1997 onwards, while Medico e Bambino on-line Journal, a parallel on-line journal, publishes additional articles.
Moreover, the web site offers many useful free services for all the readers such as the latest news on Paediatrics, courses and congresses. Medico e Bambino is reviewed in EMBASE, GOOGLE SCHOLAR, SCImago and in SCOPUS and applies a blind and expert peer-review system of all the articles to guarantee the scientific quality.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Medico e Bambino publishes scientific papers on Paediatrics. Manuscripts may be submitted in the form of editorials, original articles, review articles, special articles, letters to the Editor and guidelines. The journal aims to provide its readers with papers of the highest quality and impact through a process of careful peer review and editorial work.

Submission of manuscripts
Papers should be submitted to the Medico e Bambino Editorial Office:
redazione@medicoebambino.com. The journal does not apply any charges for the submission.
Authors are requested to choose a corresponding author. The corresponding author is responsible for the following requirements: managing all communications between the journal and all co-authors during the manuscript submission, peer review, publication process and after publication; ensuring that the names of authors, their arrangement and affiliations are correct; ensuring that all listed authors have approved the manuscript before submission; making sure all permissions to reproduce previously published material have been obtained from the copyright owner; making sure disclosures, declarations, statements from all authors are included in the manuscript as appropriate.

ETHICAL RESPONSABILITY OF AUTHORS

Submission of the manuscript means that the paper is original and has not yet been totally or partially published, is not currently under evaluation elsewhere for simultaneous consideration, is free of plagiarism and does not infringe any copyright or right of privacy. If accepted, the manuscript will not be published elsewhere either wholly or in part in any form or language except in case of specific agreements. All authors are responsible for their research.

Statement of human rights
All articles reporting studies that involve human subjects must be conducted in accordance with the principles set forth in the Helsinki Declaration.

Patient consent
Authors should include a statement clearly indicating that patients (or their parents or guardians) have given their informed consent for participation in the article.
Every precaution must be taken to protect the privacy of patients. Authors should obtain permission from the patients or their parents or guardians for the publication of photographs or other material that might identify them. If necessary, a copy of such permission may be requested.

Conflicts of interest
A conflict of interest occurs when any financial interest may affect the content of an article. This does not imply that any financial involvement with a sponsor that supported the research or funded a consultation is problematic.
To promote transparency and avoid any possible bias of the readers towards the article, each author must disclose any potential conflict of interest. If there is no conflict of interest, the authors should state: “The authors certify that there is no conflict of interest with any financial organization regarding the material discussed in the manuscript”.
All sources of funding should be acknowledged.

PEER REVIEW AND PRODUCTION

The authors implicitly agree to their paper being peer-reviewed. The journal uses a double-blind peer review process and each article is submitted to three peer reviewers.
All manuscripts will be initially reviewed by Scientific Board members. Should the paper present inappropriate topics, contents, format, or ethical aspects, the Scientific Board members could reject the manuscript before the peer review process.
If modifications to the manuscript are requested, the corresponding author should send the revised manuscript with corrections highlighted and a letter with point-by-point responses to the reviewers’ comments. Once accepted, all manuscripts are subjected to copyediting and formatting. The authors will receive proofs. Correction of proofs should be limited to typographical errors. Substantial changes in content (changes of title and authorship, new results and corrected values, changes in figures and tables) are subject to editorial review.
In order to ensure accuracy and transparency, every step of the review process is fully documented and recorded.
Review and publication of manuscripts are free of charge; peer reviewers are qualified volunteers.
