The “aggressive” child

Key words: Aggressiveness, Oppositional defiant disorder, Conduct disorder, ADHD, Bullishness

On the one hand human brain is drawn to empathy, identification with the others and altruism (developed during the symbiotic interaction mother-child), on the other hand to an aggressive component of bullying for hierarchical aims. The interaction with the father and generally with parents, and later with the school, will moderate these impulses, thus enabling the development of a social intelligence. The disorders caused by the aggressive component are: ODD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, which appears at an early age and is often associated with ADHD, and CD, Conduct Disorder, which appears later and is rarer (3%), may derive from the first one and is at the base of anti-social behaviours. The safe relationship with the mother, a balanced, neither too perfectionist nor too complaisant family and authentic affection are the protective components.
