Excessive hair growth is often a challenge for paediatricians. First of all, hirsutism (defined as excessive terminal hair growth in women, often with a typical male pattern) should be differentiated from hypertrichosis. This differentiation is important to decide for further endocrinologic investigations. This feature begins with a case vignette that highlights a common clinical problem. Evidence supporting various diagnostic and therapeutic strategies is then presented.
