A study was carried out to assess the results of pet-assisted care at the “A. Meyer” Pediatric Hospital. 138 children of preschool and school age were involved. Evaluation methods included analysis of hospital infections, a discomfort scale, three behavioral scales, the analysis of the graphic productions, 2 self-filled questionnaires for the parents and the personnel. Results: no increase in infections, beneficial effects for children (a better perception of the environment, a good interaction), parents and medical staff in favour of introducing pets in hospital, even though there is the need of more information about safety. The introduction of pets in pediatric wards is a promising approach to reduce stress in children.
