RAPID DIAGNOSTIC TESTS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN CHILDHOOD

Key words: Rapid diagnostic tests, Streptococcus, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Urinary tract infection, Cold agglutinins

Recent literature on sensitivity and specificity of rapid group A Streptococcus diagnostic testing, CRP, urinary tract infection (UTI) and aetiological diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP). Specificity for Rapid Diagnostic Test (RADT) is almost 100% and sensitivity about 90%. For UTI, combined urine leucocyte and nitrites testing by dipstick yields similar results. Sensitivity of cold agglutinins for MP is much lower, ranging from 50 to 90%.
