Key words: Antibiotics, Resistance to antibiotics
We performed a survey on the administration of antibiotics to children in the Emilia-Romagna region. This survey shows a large use of antibiotics, particularly in children aged less than 4 years. They also more frequently receive multiple treatment cycles. The antibiotic chosen is often inappropriate: in spite of the Regional Health Plan recommendations, the most widely used drugs are cephalosporins, followed by macrolides. The analysis of these results can contribute to the identification of strategies aimed at reducing the phenomena of resistance to antibiotics.
