Summary
In the last decades epidemiological clinical researches confirmed that diets rich in fruit and vegetables improve the quality of life, reduce the risk of some types of tumours, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases and positively correlate with increased life spans. This is to be attributed to their richness in phytochemicals, which are substances showing high anti-oxidant power. The bioavailability and the biological activity of each phytochemical are connected to the interactions and potentiating effect among the various phytocemiclas present in fruit and vegetables. Therefore, it is not possible to say that purified phytochemicals contained in alimentary integrators are as beneficial for health as those contained in fruit and vegetables.
